GREAT WOOD RALLY 2013 Finally the weekend of the AMWA Great Wood rally arrived! We had a very hectic week leading up to the rally and the weekend was equally as hectic which consisted of a night and day trail. There were lots of smiley faces dogs and humans which is all it is about and we are delighted with the support and feedback given by competitors, spectators and the forestry commission. The trails were in the best condition we have ever seen them and the dry but cold weather was a bonus. Big Thank you to the Forestry Commission and to the sponsors of the event, Alpha Feeds www.alphafeeds.com, Fish4Dogs www.fish4dogs.com, and Healthy Hounds Scottish Salmon oil https://www.facebook.com/HealthyHoundsSalmonOil. Thanks also to all the helpers who supported us in putting on this event. Also thanks to Mike and his team at Mikrotime who organised the timing for the event, we would highly recommend them for any event! www.mikrotime.com. The trophies we had designed were made from traditional welsh slate and hand cut and engraved by an artisan near Matt's hometown in Wales. This was the first commission of this type he had undertaken and we were very pleased with the end result. We felt the natural welsh slate suited Great Wood's area outstanding natural beauty status and each slate would be unique for the winning competitors. We both ran teams and came third in our respective classes. Lou in the two dog with Kara and Cass and Matt in the three dog with Snik, Laika, and Snak. Lou fell off on the night stage and bounced on the trails and had a little tangle with the gangline which tightly wrapped around the front wheel, this took a bit of time to sort out and the girls were very good waiting for Lou to sort it out and get back on so they can get on with the job in hand. I'm sure they rolled their eyes at the Musher! Not a proper weekend without a dogging injury! We always find competing in a rally on trails we train on tricky as the dogs get used to certain twists and turns so that kept things interesting for us but as always they all worked hard and were happy when they came in and as always as long as the dogs are having fun then we are too. John Binding of MountainTrek Alaskan Malamutes ran our sibe Tonrar in the scooter class and came second out of a very large entry! Well done Tonrar!
