End of race season 2014/2015 reflections

Juggling dogs with Matt's work commitments can be tricky especially when it comes to attending races. For this season we decided to keep things local in the South West to tie in with Matt's courses and being away with the Royal Navy this means short drives and the ability to come home early on Sundays so Matt can Leave Sunday evening to wherever he has been scheduled to go. Another factor is we are unable to get into a training routine which means the dogs were fit at the beginning of the season but not as race fit as we would usually like for the second part of the season after Christmas which is when Matt is away. Despite this and despite me not being able to attend all the races in the BSA Championship series we both came second place overall with Matt in the three dog pure bred Nordic class and a second place for me (Lou) in the two dog pure bred Nordic class. For the last race of the season and to take advantage of Matt coming home from Norway so having a bit more time at our disposal we attended the British Siberian Husky Racing Association (BSHRA) last of the season race at Rendlesham, near Ipswich. This was one of the best events we have attended, trails were fast and technical and the atmosphere was super. The dogs really opened up on the trails and although Matt dealt with hormonal bitches resulting in an 'interesting' run (I am being polite here) I ran Snik and Kara Muffin in wheel and Super Snak in single lead in my (Lou) first ever three dog race and placed third against some good competition on the Sunday. We really enjoyed the whole weekend and the dogs had very happy smiley faces and it felt like a little holiday doing our favourite thing - running dogs so was an amazing way of ending our season.

Work wise Matt has achieved some great things and with a future SERE trip to the jungles of Brunei this summer, a teaching trip to the deserts of Arizona and surviving the wilds of Cornwall, Matt is working hard to build us all a great future. This spring and summer we will be attending Champ Shows and will be busy training up the puppies Pickle and Mars and we are excited for what next season brings.
