The stormy weather during December has meant that our usual training forest has suffered from fallen trees on the trails and the roads and our house has been flooded - not ideal 'dryland' mushing weather! However, the beginning of January saw us heading to Wareham Forest for the South Coast Sleddogs rally under ABSA. The first day of the rally enjoyed torrential rain and the trails were full of puddles but the dogs really enjoyed themselves. We ran Snak in Lead with Laika and Snik in wheel, Hux and Tonrar entered the two dog scooter and for the first time competed against different breeds and Lou entered the one dog scooter with Kara. The second day saw less rain and a slight frost and Matthew changed the team around in the three dog class to run the two boys Snik and Snak in lead with Laika in wheel and we were pleased to come third out of nine competitors with a ten minute lead on fourth place. Cass's sisters took the top spot in the same class with Tracey at Coldspell. Despite the weather, mushers and dogs had lots of fun on the trails and the atmosphere of the event was super. We had a slight malfunction with the brakes on the pawtrekker scooter which saw Matt coming fourth overall and Lou missing the second round of the one dog scooter class. Our scooter only gets out maybe once or twice a year so made for an interesting run on a tricky scooter course. The whole weekend was hugely enjoyable and the rain didn't dampen spirits. Thankyou to Zara Wooliscroft and Chris Leyland for organising such a great event and Royal Canin for the sponsorship, also a thankyou to David Morton and Jason Brown for the pictures of Matt's three dog team.
Our next event is Aviemore!
