Our second race of 2015 took us to the Forest of Dean for a night and day stage rally. This was my first run at Forest of Dean and the course was a 2 mile night run and a 4 mile day run lots of scarily fast down hills. The night stage the temps were really cold and the difference the colder temps have on the dogs performance is astounding. Still recovering from a chest infection my wonderful boys Snik and Snak valiantly took us all to third place over the weekend. I just can't fault these seven year old boys, reliable, smart, never missed a turn in their lives and such excellent workers and have helped me so much with my confidence on a rig. Matt ran the girls, Laika, Cass and Kara to fifth place and had to stop the team to sort out boot issues again. The dogs really don't like running with boots on but it is better to boot them on hard surfaces and apply some braking than come back with a team with sore pads and joints. Although on paper this is a well balanced and matched team and it works well in training (we train on grassy flats and hilly hard packed trails so feet are tough) something doesn't quite add up when we compete so we are exploring whether it is the surfaces we are competing on which are alot harder, stoney and flinty than we train on and we will look to mix the teams up a bit in the future.
Pickle is now 8 months old and Mars is now getting a big boy at 5 months old, both are doing well and have integrated with the others brilliantly. We are very lucky all our dogs live and play as one and all have lovely natures so we are feeling really happy with our little family.
