End of Dryland Race Season

Our aim this race season was to explore different trails and new environments and build on our experience and knowledge base and give the younger dogs really positive race experiences, I feel we have really accomplished that this season running with the British Siberian Husky Racing Association. We have been totally inspired, learnt a lot and we are hugely proud of our dogs who have tackled very different trails to what we train on. Running dogs recreationally you really do have to make use of the resources you have available, with regards to time, access to training trails etc. Everyones circumstance is different, you just have to make the best of the resources to hand and more importantly make sure the dogs are happy and healthy. This has been the first season Matt has been home for a full season of training and racing and we have been training roughly 4.5 miles four times a week at our nearest forest on the Quantock Hills. The training trails are hard packed and hilly and we have been racing on flat and grassy but this has made us look again at how we train, and adapt which has been a really rewarding experience and we are already making plans for how we train moving forward.

We are delighted with the dogs (and Matt's) top ten placing in the BSHRA Championship in the two dog class. One of the reasons we wanted to race with BSHRA is because the competition is so tight with literally seconds between competitors and we are competing against a larger field of 20 to 30 teams in a class. We weren't able to attend six of the races so super pleased with the end results. Matt's team was made up of Mars and Snik with guest appearances from the other race crew who I also ran in the three dog class.
